On Tuesday the 20th October Di Kitson, the Local Programmes Officers for Time to Change, visited the Woking Mind drop in centre to get the latest news on our activities.
Time to Change is a national anti stigma campaign to end the discrimination faced by people who suffer from mental health problems. This is being achieved through local projects run across the country to help increase peoples well being. Woking Mind is contributing to this project through our Healthy Living Club. Overall, 20 million has been raised through the National Lottery and Comic Relief.
On a national scale Time to Change is supporting legal cases where people feel discriminated against. They also provide training to teachers and doctors in understanding mental health, which is being delivered by service users. The largest part of the Time to Change campaign is to raise the public awareness of the stigma related to mental illness and to change peoples attitudes and behaviour through undertaking mental health projects.
Woking Mind recently participated in a walk around Woking Park, one of 300 hundred events runs across the UK to celebrate Mental Health Day.
